Well, this recipe came about because we tried a recipe for our Thanksgiving dinner a week prior. We wanted our Thanksgiving to be special, as it was going to be all vegan. So, just in case they didn’t like it, we were armed with a fantastic dessert (see image to the below).
I always make an apple pie with an apple crisp topping, as that is what everyone likes to eat. I wanted something different but still apple pie. So I love hanging out on youtube and checking out other vegan channels, and looking up recipes to try or tweak to my liking. Actually, I don’t think I have followed to many recipes to the “T” except for pie crust haha! Okay… okay, so the pie was a huge hit!
Lately, I have been experimenting and really liking making pie crusts with nuts and dates and now with nuts and flour and I really like it. In my younger days working with lard and flour, salt and vinegar and trying to perfect the dough made me cry a few times… yup cry lol! I really wanted to make the perfect crust. And after much trial and error I did so! I make a great pie crust if I say so myself!
Okay, so that is why I LOVE! making nut crusts as it is so easy, anyone can do it! They are delicious and healthy! and just down right yummy! … I know… I know…. back to youtube. I found the perfect pie to make (above picture); called the salted apple caramel crumble tart! I was so attracted to trying this, as my favorite next to chocolate… or maybe side-by-side is caramel …. so yummy! I found it on this blog “hot for food” check it out HERE! This pie is so yummy, its sweet, caramelly (if that is a word), salty crunchy … nutty omg.. you must try it! and the best part, very easy to make. I wished that I was vegan when I was born… life would have been so much easier as the recipes are so easy and tasty (of course I wish mostly for the animals, my taste-buds stand way beneath the life of an animal… just needed to clarify that).
My second dilemma with this pie is all the vegan butter and of course tons of sugar. So, I thought its okay to have a treat here and there, but a whole piece of pie is a whopping calorie fat load. So, I shrunk it, removed the caramel sauce for the top, but if you still want the caramel sauce, you can check out how to make the sauce HERE.
They are so cute, and great tasting! Depending on your abilities, it can be a 1 bite, 2 bite or 3 bite mini apple crisp pie. Check out how cute are they!
